چکیده

Congestion and Congestion control in packet switch networks has been an active area of research for a long time. Congestion is defined as loss of network performance when a network is highly loaded. The problem of congestion control in ATM (Asynchronous Transmission Mode) has assumed a different dimension, because of the gigbit speed provided by ATM networks. Congestion control algorithms of packet switching networks, generally use the feedback information provided by the destination end system to control congestion. But in ATM networks, since the cell and compare various congestion control algorithms of ATM networks. In our work, we have proposed a new framework for the classification and comparative study of ATM congestion control schemes. The different aspects on which we have classified the algorithms are control theoretic approach, action and congestion notification. These three aspects present of the classification present a coherent framework on which congestion control algorithms are to be classified. Such an classification will also help in developing new algorithms. V" ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I am thankful to Dr. C. Q. Yang for the support and guidance he gave me during my Master's thesis. I am very greatful for the oppurtunitv to work and learn under him. I also thank the Department of Computer Science for the financial support. members. A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

Congestion Control Approaches Applied to Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are a specific category of wireless ad-hoc networks where their performance is highly affected by application, life time, storage capacity, processing power, topology changes, the communication medium and bandwidth. These limitations necessitate an effective data transport control in WSNs considering quality of service, energy efficiency, and congestion control. ...

A Comparative Performance Analysis of Call Admission Control Schemes in ATM Networks

Connection Admission Control (CAC) is one of the primary mechanisms for preventive congestion control and bandwidth allocation in ATM networks. A substantial number of CAC schemes have been proposed. In this paper, we review the salient features of some of these algorithms. We also provide a comparative study of the performance of CAC schemes devised to meet certain quality of service requireme...

Performance of TCP over Multi-Hop ATM Networks: A Comparative Study of ATM-Layer Congestion Control Schemes

We study the performance of TCP/IP on a multi-hop ATM network by simulation in an eeort to evaluate the eeec-tiveness of various congestion-control schemes at the ATM layer. The congestion control schemes considered are the ATM-Early Packet Discard (ATM-EPD) and link-level ow control. The performance of these schemes are compared against that of an ATM layer with no congestion control, as well ...
